Taylor Swift is proving she’s officially gone from a football newbie to a full-on NFL enthusiast. During her debut on the New Heights podcast, the pop superstar gave a surprising shout-out to Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff — and now he’s weighing in on the unexpected mention.
At a press conference on Thursday (Aug. 14), Goff was asked how he felt about Swift name-dropping him on the podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce. With a grin, he kept things light. “Yeah, pretty crazy,” he admitted. “Very cool, I guess.”
The quarterback went on to share just how wild the moment was for him personally. “That was a crazy couple of hours last night for me and my phone,” Goff joked, mimicking how he scrolled through endless notifications. “I was like, ‘Woah!’ Yeah, kind of cool.”
The reaction came just a day after the New Heights episode aired. While chatting with her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, Swift opened up about how little she once knew about the sport. “I thought it was like, Jared Goff is here and Josh Allen is here, and they blow a whistle, and they go at each other,” she laughed, recalling her early misconceptions. “I didn’t know what a first down was — I didn’t know what chains were.”
But things have changed dramatically since Swift started dating the Kansas City Chiefs star in 2023. She revealed that she now finds herself completely invested in the game. “I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’” she admitted. “My friends are like, ‘Who body-snatched you? What do you mean?’”
Football talk wasn’t the only highlight of Swift’s New Heights appearance. She also touched on life after her record-breaking Eras Tour, her father Scott’s recovery from heart surgery, and reclaiming her masters. On top of that, she teased exciting details about her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, set to drop on Oct. 3 as the follow-up to her 17-week Billboard 200 No. 1, The Tortured Poets Department.
“[The album is] a lot more upbeat, and it’s a lot more fun pop excitement,” Swift explained. “It’s about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during the Eras Tour. My main goals were melodies that are so infectious, you’re almost mad at them.”
